A Year in Our Wake: Inspire Sailing’s 2022 Highlights

Having opened in the summer of 2021, 2022 was Inspire Sailing’s first full year in business. Looking at the year‘s highlights, we can only feel thankful for our community of sailors. Like members of any sailing crew, our interdependence is what makes forward momentum possible.

We came together this year at social events on land and on the water, and as students newly hooked on sailing, lifelong sailors, and everyone in between. As diverse as we are, we connected through our common dedication to continual learning in pursuit of the rewards that come with skillful, artful sailing - that healthy euphoria and feeling of empowerment that always keeps us coming back for more.

We thank our students and charterers who love sailing as much we do, because you’ve enabled us to offer a wide variety of new and exciting opportunities for sailors to learn and play on San Francisco Bay. This was the story of Inspire Sailing’s 2022.

Social Events

Thank you to everyone to attended our three member appreciation BBQs this year. We enjoy sharing a meal with you, getting to know you a little better, and helping you get to know each other too.

  • Opening Day on the Bay Celebration / April

  • Summer Sailstice / June

  • Fall Member Appreciation Party / October

We look forward to hosting more events in 2023!

Racing Program

Forty-one sailors joined our spring and fall Racing Clinics, adding to our growing race team. Thanks to new graduates and our experienced racers, our J/105s Nirvana and Resolute and other J/boats were able to make frequent appearances in Berkeley Yacht Club’s winter Sunday Chowders, Midwinters, and Friday Night Races spring through fall. Our teams have also put in some great performances! See our blog for racing news and articles and visit the BYC website for ongoing race results.

The response to our J/24 Racing Skipper Clinic, launched in November, has been enthusiastic. Our first clinic hosted enough registrants to crew five boats, making for a realistic close-quarters race setting for everyone. (The next clinic is January 21.)

New Cruising Boat Offerings

In partnership with Modern Sailing, we began hosting ASA cruising boat courses here in Berkeley. The acquisition of Catalina 30s Golden Girl in May and Tule Wind in October has also helped give students and charterers more opportunities to explore both the excitement of sportboat sailing as well as the comfier cruising boat experience.

New Membership Program

The Unlimited Sportboat <30’ Sailing Membership launched in June, enabling sailors to enjoy sailing sportboats more often for one low monthly rate.

Thanks again to all those who helped make 2022 a year of growth and fun for everyone. We look forward to continuing our students’ and members’ favorite programs and offerings in 2023. As we strive to continue improving what we do and how we do it, we are excited for the progress that the new year will bring!

We wish you and your loved ones great health, prosperity, and joy in 2023 and beyond! Happy New Year!
